“When I am asked to explain why I volunteer to be a Court Appointed Special Advocate my mind races through all my reasons. In our society, be it local or national, most of our youth do not have the advantages of an extended family network to support them on their journey through childhood and adolescence. They have fewer positive adult role models helping them develop responsibility, judgement and self-discipline. They have fewer positive adult role models affirming their self worth and responding to their needs. It is a great concern and a challenging opportunity for me. It is a task that I take very seriously and personally. My involvement in this program can easily be summed up in the quote attributed to Franklin D. Roosevelt, 'We can't always build the future for our youth, but we can build our youth for the future.'"
