Be For The Child

advocate for children in legal system

DonateMaking our Impact Possible

On any given day, 20,000 children in Tennessee who have experienced abuse and neglect need CASA volunteers to speak up for them in juvenile court.

Williamson County CASA advocates for children who otherwise could be lost in the court system, left in abusive situations, incarcerated, or run away. Our volunteers spend 10 to 25 hours per month advocating for each child: investigating their situation, building relationships, and making recommendations to the court.

Your gift makes it possible for us to recruit, train, and support these volunteer advocates who serve as a consistent voice for vulnerable children.

Why Your Gift Matters

Foster care in Tennessee costs $8,800 per month per child. Research shows that having a CASA volunteer can shorten a child’s time in foster care by at least one month—saving taxpayers money while ensuring better outcomes for children.

Across Tennessee, 1,568 CASA volunteers served 5,216 children last year, donating over 100,678 hours of service and saving Tennessee taxpayers approximately $45.9 million annually.

Every dollar helps ensure kids in our county find safety, stability, and a permanent home faster.

A terrific way to financially support Williamson County CASA is by donating long term appreciated securities. By doing so, you potentially receive a tax deduction for the fair market value of the security on the date of the donation, avoid paying long term capital gains tax and realize a lower cost of the donation. For example, you may own a stock with an original cost basis of $20 per share that has a current fair market value of $75 per share. Donating 50 shares at $75 per share has a fair market value of $3,750. The cost of the gift is $1,000. This method of giving results in a wonderful benefit to you and to Williamson County CASA!

Here’s how it works. Contact our Director of Development at danielle@williamsoncountycasa.org or 615-591-2699 x2 to get the specific delivery instructions to our broker. Provide the instructions to your advisor or broker and determine which security you wish to donate. The advisor or broker will execute the secure transfer electronically. Williamson County CASA will provide to you a letter of receipt stating the date of delivery and the fair market value of the gift. Provide the letter to your tax advisor in order to document the gift for your tax return. Please contact your tax advisor to determine the tax advantage of the gift.
